The purpose of the final work was to investgate the possible uses of heat-transfer printing method in handigraft fabric printing and textile design. The goall of the experiments was to produce two applications utilizing the transfer picture method. In the first product application the heát-transfer picture is printed in large format on fabric containing cotton, polyester and elastane, and it exploits the color and texture of the fabric to portray the image. In the other product application the heat-transfer picture is combined with the same pattern as the pigment printing color. In this product application the material of the fabric is cotton/linen mixture and the fabric is light and one-colored. The authorīs digita-camera photos were prosessed by the Photo-Shop program and used in the samples and product applications. The work also describes the printing methods of photographic textile surface.
The objective of the experiments was to investigate the suitability of different fabric materials for the heat-transfer pcture method. The experiments utilized a wide variety of fabrics with different materials, colors and textures. The experiments showed that it is possible to print heat-transfer pictures on very many different materials. Very coarsely woven fabrics and fabrics that stretch yielded the worst results. The samples showed that different base colors of the fabrics will yield different tones to the printed images, and this characteristic can also be employed in the useof transfer pictures.
According to the results, it is possible to utilize the transfer picture method in handigraft printing and textile design. The heat-transfer picture printing technique is quick and thus also allows immediate observation of the matc between image and fabric. This facilitates the handigraft design process.
The final work was the first stage of product development. Future challenges include an investgation of heat-transfer pictures fastness to washing and their possible funcion in utility textiles, such as curtains.
The final work is directed at students of the textile field and for the people with basic knowledge of the field. |
