The aim of this final project was to design a simple and modern range of place setting textiles, including table cloths and place mats. The range was designed to be used alongside the Arabia ‘Arctica’ dinner service during celebration or with a light tablecloth. The DB-Weave design-program was used in designing the structure of the cloth. Familiarization with the subject was achieved by observing the place setting products in stores and by interviewing the dealers. The survey was carried out in five stores operating in the same town. A closer look at linen, the history of the binding of the linen cloths, ecological linen and earlier studies of the place setting textiles were also undertaken. Samples of different colours were produced in experimental warp. The shrinkage of the samples according to the washing cycle was also examined. The final products were chosen on the grounds of the samples. Instructions for care were made and a suitable package designed and produced for the products. Marketing, customers and competitiveness of the products were be considered and production costs and the final price calculated. To conclude, the steps and results of the work will be assessed in its entirety.
