The purpose of this final work project was to design wall materials for a band rehearsal room using only recycled materials. The idea came from the author’s experience of using rehearsal places. The starting point of the design process was to investigate the interiors where artists are practising nowadays and to interview them. The aesthetics and acoustics were taken into consideration when choosing materials.
Further information on the subject was collected from the books concerning acoustics, from the internet and from interviews. To gather maximum information it was important to visit different kinds of rehearsal rooms and take photo’s as there is little information in literary format.
The author used PhotoShop to show how materials fit into the particular interiors. The place where the materials were to be used was a small and already existing rehearsal room in Kuopio. Fruit packets became the most important material in the final design as they were plentiful and free of cost; taken mostly from the city market place. These are black, purple and black packets, made from board or plastic. Other materials used were recycled fabric, wood and board. The author was content with the good quality of the fruit packet materials which gave good acoustic sound qualities and allowed for many different approaches and solutions.
