The aim of the final work was to plan and carry out a handicraft course for the young. The starting point for the course was a questioning conducted in Jaakko Ilkka’s school in Ilmajoki. The questioning clarified the students' interest in different types of handicraft techniques. The answers made it easier to choose the theme and the techniques for the course and helped to plan a course to meet the students' wishes. The handicraft course was based on the questioning and the objectives of teaching designing and practical skills. The four-day course was held in Ilmajoki-opisto. The selected techniques of the course were fabric printing, dying and sewing. The themes of the course were summer clothes and environment. The experiences acquired from the environment were the starting point for product designing. Creative problem solving skills, learning by doing, successful experiences, expressing feelings and ideas and self-expression were emphasized throughout the course. The supervisors, students' ideas, observations and feedback were analyzed in the report. Observations and experiences were connected to the theories of learning and handicraft work process. All information will be benefited when planning new courses.
