The objective of this graduate work was to design a printing pattern based on the theme of an angel and to compose various products, in which the pattern could be utilized. In addition, the objective was to manufacture two different products, where the pattern could be used. The writer’s interest in angels, which she has used in her previous work, has played a part in choosing the subject. The comprehensive and informative introduction offers an insight into the theme and at the same time brings a spiritual depth to the planning process itself. The writer wanted to find out whether the angel products, designed and manufactured herself, could sustain enough demand to make them viable on a larger scale The products were in a test sale in Juhanantupa, Kesälahti. With the help of a questionnaire, the writer has explored opinions towards angels, including questions concerning negative preferences; where the consumer would not want to see angels, for example. The writer analyzed the questionnaire results and made a conclusion based upon them. As the starting point to the planning, the writer used the pictures of an angel drawn by her little brother as a child. Pictures of sketches and experiments during the process were attached to the work. In these pictures one can see different phases in the planning process from the ideas to the final products. As a result, there are two products; a bag and an apron, where the printed pattern appears. The results of the bag test sale are also shown in the graduate work, where it became clear there would be more demand for the angel bags. This work focuses on the design of the pattern and therefore the planning of the product remains mainly at the level of composition.
