The subject of the final work was the designing process of the works of textile art. The ideas for the works of textile art derive from three different music-styles: classical music, jazz and hip hop/R&B (R&B = Rhythm and Blues). The authorīs own musical background and interest in the interaction of music and visual art had an influence on choosing the subject. Music and visual art were combined in the designing process. The objective of the final project work was to develop authorīs own personal style and to express the authorīs point of view on the subject. The problem of the work was to find out how to turn the musical impression into visual expression, and how abstraction of music can be transformed into concrete visible expression in order to evoke thoughts. The objective was to find out what kind of images music brings into peopleīs minds and what kind of interaction there is between music and visual art. The history and subcultures of different music styles were studied first. The new knowledge brought new aspects and enriched the designing process. The results of the survey revealed how music students and other people experience music, and what kind of images and feelings music awakes. Several designs of each music style were made. 1:1 material samples of the best designs were made by using dyeing and printing techniques. The author collaborated with the Faculty of Music of Lahti Polytechnic, of which leader, teachers and one student gave feedback from the designs.
