The purpose of this final work was that the writer gets acquainted with the information found in literature on business present and forms a general view about the meanings of business gifts in the operations of different companies. It was also important to understand what is required from a good business gift. A product family was designed based on all the information from different sources and then it was made from barked leather. The products needed to be practical and differ in appearance from other available leather products. Difference was made by making patterns to the leather, because usually leather products are of one colour. Final products where a photo frame, a business card folder and a notebook. Being based on the information about business gifts and the final products a structured inquiry was made to some of the corporations in the service sector. Some questions were asked about the supply of business gifts in general and in addition there were questions about the products.
About one quarter of the corporations to which the author contacted answered to the inquiry. Because of the small amount of answers the results of the inquiry are just suggestive. For example, the most popular product was the business card folder. A clear majority liked the stripe pattern more than any other choice. They described the stripe pattern among other things as an interesting and suitable for business present. All of the respondents of the inquiry wanted that their corporations’ logo has to be present in the business present but it doesn’t have to be that visible.
Products in the product family differ in appearance from other leather products and the products have a lot of potential to be good business presents. With the help of the inquiry some suggestions for the improvement of the products were received and also some new product ideas were given. For example, someone suggested that the top cover of the notebook should be hard. Altogether this kind of a final project work was interesting to do and probably all the information that has been collected for this work will also be useful later on.
