This final project work deals with hand weaving from an aesthetic perspective. The history and the facts about weaving; the aesthetics and the authors’ subjective experiences and sensations in weaving were all essential points. There is much to prepare before one may actually start weaving. The control of techniques, implements and materials are essential parts of weaving so that the aim, the creation of a textile, is achieved. The necessities of the weaving process inspired the author to deal with the intermediate phases of weaving. The central problems for this final project work were; how the beauty of weaving shows in the process of weaving and what kind of beautiful experience weaving is? The author reviewed objects and perceptions in weaving. The aim of this final project work was to show aesthetics in hand weaving because the author found that new perspectives for weaving were necessary. The author concluded that an understanding of weaving is necessary so that the beauty of weaving can be experienced comprehensively. The learning, knowledge and understanding of the history of weaving are significant to the experience. The experience gives a dimension of beauty to the weaving experience. The manifestation of beauty in weaving demands subjective interest to look at weaving and the objects of weaving. This final project work is directed at persons interested in weaving and who understand weaving; for example students, but also for weaving professionals, to inspire and give insight into weaving.
