The objective of the project was to undertake total interior design for the private home utilising protocol-analysis or the thinking-aloud method. The interior design was done as client-work for the private home of a couple living in Kuopio and it will be realised according to the schedule of the clients. Total-designing has been the principal object of the client-work. The purpose of the final project work is to demonstrate the maker’s pragmatic approach to total designing. The textile designer/maker is, how-ever, particularly interested and familiar with textile materials. The maker believes that textiles are an es-sential part of an interior. In the interior design solutions, curtains and other textile designs have been detailed. The exploratory methods employed in the final project work were protocol-analysis and phenomenologi-cal analysis. Both methods have been used extensively in the work. The interior design was done in a customer-oriented way and the client’s created material spoken aloud which was open-written, classified and analysed. The analysed material was used as a background for designing. The finished interior de-sign is demonstrated in the catalogue of surface materials, furniture and textiles, picture collages and the location of lighting, furniture and portraits. The project gained positive results from the thinking-aloud process as the results were obtained honestly and naturally. The methods used were critically evaluated and feedback on the methods obtained from the clients. The maker hopes the complete design will improve the client’s well-being as a functional environ-ment. This final project work is directed to students and professionals in field of textile- and interior design who are interested in new perspective to interior design.
