The objective of the final project work was to explore the subjective experiences and ideas during the dyeing process. The intention was to produce noticeable things in the dyeing process; to the illustrate shapes with the collage technique and carry out A Dyer’s diary- work of art. The Dyer’s diary-work is done mainly for the author herself, but it could be understandable and useful for other practitioners working with these methods. The exploratory methods used in this final project work were thinking-aloud and intuition. The author used the thinking-aloud method by speaking to a tape recorder during the critical periods of the five experimental dyeing process. The material is open-written and used as exploration material. Intuition was used during the idealizing period. The author has researched information for the thinking-aloud method, intuition method and the history of collage as a background for the final project work. The thinking-aloud method worked well for collecting the required materials in the dyeing process. The exploratory material helped to distinguish the author’s thoughts, experiences and ideas, which she has illustrated figuratively. Also following the author’s intuition has been very important in the final project work. From using this technique she has found new approaches and ways of working and a new ability to critically analyse her own work. The final project work is directed towards dyers and people who are interested in collage, figurative decoration and the thinking-aloud method or intuition.
