The aim of this final work is to compose a curriculum for the crafts workshop at the Jokilääni folk college. The workshop gives basic teaching in craft arts for children between the ages of age 8-10. The work was carried out as a qualitative case study. The information for the study was collected by a questionnaire for workshop teachers and by content analysis of the Ministry of Education recommendations. There was also a short survey made of the Jokilääni folk college lesson structure and teaching resources. The crafts workshop is a two-year-course at Jokilääni folk college divided into several workshops. The structure and contents of crafts workshop teaching were studied for the basis of the curriculum. How large an entity do the workshops create? Which materials and techniques are used? What is a suitable duration for a workshop? The curriculum consists of the structure, the extent and goals of teaching, general arrangements and teaching contents and the individual goals of each workshop. The curriculum will be used as the basis of the teaching and as an instrument in presenting the teaching of the workshops, in introducing the crafts workshops to the students’ parents and in the recruiting of teachers. The curriculum was introduced into teaching during the fall of 2004. In the spring of 2005 it will be evaluated against the experiences gained. The following evaluation will be conducted against the background of the new Ministry of Education recommendations that are expected to be completed in 2005.
