The final project with thesis was a design-oriented process. The goal was to make prototypes of ceramic serving dishes on the basis of the designs. The partner of the project was the Alvar Aalto Museum. The serving dishes were designed for the café of the museum. The whole interior of the café and the customer’s opinions had to be considered. The design ideologies of Alvar Aalto were studied first and then applied to the design process. The customer desired the serving dishes to be multi-purpose and big. The colour of the dishes had to match the clean and simple style of the café. The organic forms and the stackability of the dishes came from the design ideologies of Alvar Aalto. Various collages and idea maps were used as design tools. The actual manufacturing process started by making the plaster moulds for casting. The dishes were cast from porcelain clay with the help of the moulds. The completed set of serving dishes comprises three pieces. The cooperation with the museum has continued after the final project. Copies of the products were made for the shop of the museum.
