The objective of the final project with thesis was to develop the preparatory vocational training and rehabilitation in prison environment. Prison education in other words, correctional education does not lead to a vocational degree. The aim of the project was to find out the meanings of craft and how they could be applied to creative craft activities in order to benefit the maker of crafts. Knowledge of prison education and the meanings of craft were searched from relevant literature. Meaningful knowledge was also gathered from curricula. The manufacturing processes of crafts were observed by participatory observation method. The knowledge acquired through the analysis of the observation was used for the evaluation of the manufacturing processes of crafts, products, and the influence of the participation in craft education. The strategy of the Soft Systems Methodology was used as the research method. In addition to the author's knowledge of product design and vocational education, the author’s approach became more student-oriented along with the new knowledge of using craft education in prisoner rehabilitation. The aims of making crafts and designing products are different in preparatory vocational education and in prisoner rehabilitation. In preparatory vocational education, attention has to be paid to the aspect of acquiring professional skills and knowledge. Besides, the aesthetics and usability of the product and the knowledge of using suitable techniques for the material must be considered. The main point in prisoner rehabilitation is that the makers of crafts can express and integrate themselves by the means of crafts. A very important aspect in both approaches is the possibility to use creativity. A product which is appropriately challenging to make gives the maker resources for self-control. Practical skills are increasingly highly esteemed. The well-being of a skilful person may increase as a result of self-esteem and by the appreciation received from other people. The final project with thesis resulted in an instruction folder. The aim of the folder is to be a renewable tool which can be supplemented and used by students and instructors. It helps to find suitable crafts for the individual. The photos of everyone’s items of craft motivates to make quality works and increases self-esteem.
