The basis of the final project with thesis was the memories of the author's own clothes of her
childhood and youth. The memories were compiled into stories. The aim of the study was to transfer
the meanings of the stories into a textile creation through a creative process. Another aim was to
reflect the author's own behaviour in regard to her clothes today.
The data of the study consists of photographs, clothes, diaries and letters from the years between
1965 - 1986 when the author was 3 - 24 years old. In addition to this data the context of the culture
and the epoc of the author's childhood and youth was dealt with.
The particular final project with thesis was a qualitative research which is chronologically placed in the
near past. The photos, objects and facts were viewed from a retrospective perspective. The
autoethnographic research method was used in the study, which means that the author's memories
were filtered through her own cultural background.
The themes which derived from the decoded stories and the vision map were the basis of the creation
process. The piece of textile was realized as a result of the creation process and experiments. It
reflects the cultural background and the meanings of the author's own clothes in her childhood and
youth. The current behaviour of the author in regard to clothes was also analysed through the themes
that arose from the stories. |
