THE DEPARTMENT OF GRAPHIC DESIGN (Degree Programme in Graphic Design we no longer take new students.) Graphic designers are interpreters who communicate in a visual language. They thus require communication skills, the ability to express themselves and to produce innovative visual solutions. Polished appearance, informativeness, a command of imagery and attention value are factors that make a graphic design interesting and functional. Applications of graphic design include typography, publication design, corporate and product graphic design, and marketing communication. Students of this subject learn how to formulate a message in a professional manner: journalistically, visually and typographically. The studies in graphic design cover digital content production, online media, multimedia and digital audio-visual production. The emphasis in digital design is on command of the production processes and the development of technical skills. Students enhance their visual and technical skills by carrying out projects in the course of their studies. Design cannot be planned without engaging in partnership with clients and the environment. Through their practical assignments conducted in partnership with companies, students learn and gain practice in working within the confines imposed by the client’s resources and objectives and in identifying the various stages in the design and execution processes. Of major importance in these studies are the acquisition of professional expressive skills, contacts with the world of business and a client-oriented approach.
