The loan period for books is two weeks.

2. PERIODICALS

The Library subscribes to both Finnish and foreign periodicals, which are kept in cabinets. The latest issue of each magazine is in the door and can be borrowed once the next issue has appeared. Some periodicals are kept in the departments. For example, all issues of periodicals dealing with textiles, clothing and special techniques for the present and previous year are kept at the Materials Library at Niiralankatu. The volumes are stored on shelves in alphabetical order according to title. The oldest volumes are on the sliding shelves in the basement studio and can be borrowed via the Library. The loan period for periodicals is two weeks. Newspapers are kept in their cabinets for about two weeks.

3. THESES

The originals of theses, diploma and degree assignments are stored in the Library in numerical order by year and department. Large attachments are stored in numerical order on a shelf of their own. Diploma assignments are stored in the departments but are not comprehensively archived.

Thesis assignments may not be borrowed, except by teachers for teaching purposes and the author him/herself.

Publications of abstracts of theses may be used as an aid in seeking a particular work. Assignments have been catalogued in the library database since 1986. Searches can be made by, for example, author, title and subject heading. The abstracts of theses are also to be found on the Kuopio Design Academy’s home pages.

The Library also contains advanced studies in textiles, clothing and craft design studies at the University of Helsinki and certain other reports related to the subject.

4. THE BUILDING INFORMATION FILE

The Building Information File (RT-kortisto) consists of instructions, regulations, materials and an index. The Instructions section contains information on the management and planning of a building project, structure and room design. The Regulations section contains the Acts, Decrees, Council of State and Ministry decisions on building projects, along with the building regulations and instructions in their original wording. The Materials section gives technical information about building materials, equipment and services as supplied by their manufacturers. The Materials section is supplemented by a book. The Index consists of a subject index, a table of contents and instructions for use and updating. The Sources section gives instructions on information retrieval and classification and publication catalogues. The Index is the key to the use of the Building Information File.

5. ETHNOGRAPHICAL NOTES, COLLECTION CARDS AND RELATED PICTURES 1974-1988

Collection reports are filed by year in numerical order. Entered on the interleaves are the report number, the place of collection and the collector. The collection reports are entered in the Library system. Material cannot be removed from the Library.
