DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The Bachelor (BA) level Degree Programmes lasts four years and amount to 240 ECTS credits.

Kuopio Academy of Design offers two Degree Programmes:

• Degree Programme in Design, Bachelor of Design
• Degree Programme in Graphic Design, Bachelor of Graphic Design
(Degree Programme in Graphic Design we no longer take new students.)

Main subjects in the Degree Programme in Design in autumn 2012 are:
• Interior Architecture and Furniture Design
• Fashion and Clothing Design
• Jewellery and Precious Metalwork Design
• Industrial Design

Main subjects in the Degree Programme in Design at the moment are:

• Product Design
• Ceramics and Glass Design
• Textile Design
• Fashion and Clothing design

Main subjects in the Degree Programme in Graphic Design:

• Graphic Design; various aspects of graphic design and digital design

Students in both of these degree programmes have advanced studies totalling 30 ECTS. Recearch Methods 15 ECTS dredits and students will choose on of the following study modules, 15 ECTS credits:
• Industrial Design
• Creative production and Enterpreneurship
• Craft skills and Productisation
• Graphic Design

In addition to the major subjects, students can widen their main interests through advanced studies, elective studies, work placement and final project and thesis. The following advanced study areas provide the student with the skills and orientation required for working in the chosen field:

• Industrial Design ; product designers, outline designers, usability experts, material developers, technical product developers and prototyping experts

• Creative Production and Entrepreneurship ; studio entrepreneurs and designers, experts in visualisation of the cultural industry

• Craft skills and Productisation ; craft and design instructors in experiential, crafts-related activities in leisure services, in adult education and in institutions.

• Graphic Design ; graphic designers and experts in marketing communication, virtual modelling, digital tools and applications.
