The final project work has been a process of creative expression in order to bring art for the general public to experience. During this process, the designer has both designed and produced three pieces of art based on ideas lace has evoked in her. The choice of using wire as the material of her designs and bobbin lacework as the production technique was already made beforehand. The process itself was creative and an emotional experience based on the subjective creative need of the designer herself. The designer’s work was based on the method of abductive logic. During the process, the designer let her intuition guide her: her thoughts and ideas, at the same time allowing her to merge with her impressions. The designer has acquired versatile information, which led to new, emerging ideas and impressions in the course of the process. The basic ideas of these three pieces of art emerged from the flow of mind created by thoughts, feelings, impressions, experiences and acquired information. Based on these ideas the designer produced a series of three pieces of bobbin lacework – by using wire. In her creative work, the designer has looked for thoughts, feelings and opinions evoked by lace as a phenomenon trying to raise above the individual level of experiencing art. The leading idea in her work has been the golden years of European lacework defined by her to start from the year 1450 and ending to the year 1900. In her work, the designer has come up with a definition of lace, pondered with the idea of lace as a phenomenon, studied both users and makers of lace as well as the history of lace in addition to reviews of her own opinions about lace. The aim of designing and producing these pieces of work was to describe the designer’s own thoughts, feelings, opinions and experiences instead of lace itself. The designer has used the golden years of lacework as a basis for her growing awareness and as a leading idea in her work. The designer’s process of creative expression has been a strong emotional experience. Led by her intuition, the designer studied lace as a means of using power as well as defining the status of women in a society in her first work “Bridal Helmet”. The second work “From One Sin to Another” emerged from thoughts of users of lace and the essence of sin. The third work “The Vanishing All” describes the designer’s thoughts of ending phenomena and human life of small importance. In addition, the designer evaluated her own process of creative expression and working as well as her pieces of art – one by one and as a series. At the beginning of the process, the designer has studied the meaning of art and her own need for creative expression. At the end, she has studied the process of creating, intuition and its meaning for creative expression and intuition as a part of abductive logic as well as lace as a field of textile art. The emerging thoughts during her work have been listed and analyzed with the mind-map technique. In addition, the designer has studied bobbin lacework as a technique as well as the adaptability of wire in this kind of technique.
