The aim of this final project work has been to collect information about ways and possibilities to recycle textiles.
In this work meanings of central concepts that involved to subject were solved. Environmental effects that textiles have during their life cycle were also discussed. The meaning of this work was to find information, develop comprehensions of environmentally responsible ways of consumption and thereby add an ecological point of view to working.
During information gaining acquaintance was made to two enterprises that work among textile recycling. One of the enterprises is presented in this final project work. Part of the information gaining was also to take part in a series of lectures about Ecology and ethics. Lectures were arranged by The Kuopio Academy of Design.
The aim of this work was also to make a file of samples and a piece of fabric. Raw materials for samples and fabric were recycled materials. These materials were collected from own storages or getting them as donation from acquaintances. File of samples contains different kind of technique and material experiments that aspire to handle textiles as ecologically as possible.
Among the samples, an experiment that had potential for development on behalf of technique and materials was chosen. Function of the idea was tested by doing more experiments. When the suitable technique was found the experiments were made with materials that were chosen for the fabric and after that the fabric was made. The fabric could be used as a part of clothing- or furnishing textile. Connecting the fabric to a final article is going to happen later and that needs help from an expert.
