The final project work is a co-operation project made by a
textile- and a ceramicstudent. The aim is to design compatible textiles
with the barrels designed by the ceramics student Maarit Hietanen.
The designwork is based on an interview research which was carried out in
three stores in Kuopio: at the department of kitchenware-, glass- and
porcelain of Sokos department store, the crafts- and designstore Oma Tupa
and the giftstore Sininen Silta.
The research mapped out the supply of setting textiles and their users. On
the basis of the research results was defined a fictional consumer and were
chosen the products that would be designed. The image of the fictional
consumer led the aim of the designing into a simple and timeless style.
Table mats were chosen in to the setting textiles collection. From barrels
plates were chosen to the designing. The colourīs effects to the setting
and atmosphere and the combinations of different colours in food, barrels
and textiles were studied to ease the selection of colours in setting
textiles collection.
The designing work was done together and independently. All the big
decisions, like materials, weaves, figure compositions and colours were
made together. The independent working was based on the mutual decisions.
In the designing of textiles the starting point was to combine smooth and
thick materials. On the basis of this idea were designed simple forms with
smooth ground and thick figures. A ball-shaped form was chosen to the table
mats and technical solutions were searched by weaving. After many
experiments the figured weave was regarded at the best. The chosen
materials were the combination of paperyarn and linen. After the final
material and figure composition solutions the colours to setting textiles
collection were decided to be black, blue, green and red. To make the
textiles and barrels compatible, the same colours were chosen to the
barrels, too.
Finally was deliberated the fictive image of the setting products and the
future which was described with a collage. |
