The aims for the present final project work was to learn the basics of
industrial and consumer related design and to research the author's role as
a freelance-designer. The work was made in co-operation with Intrade
Partners Ltd. On the background of the design process is the observation
and analysing process of the standard operational mode of Intrade Partners
Ltd. as well as of external operation field and products of
Prisma-hypermarkets and their competitors. In this final project work the
kind of interior design fabrics on the market as well as aspects having an
influence on the commercial design process are studied from the designer's
perspective. The goal was to design commercial, aesthetic and versatile
printed products for Finnish homes. In this work the author has discussed
international and national trends for spring 2002 as well as textile
markets, on the basis of interior design magazines, in order to make the
designs competitive on the market. In the designing process the author has
observed visions of the consumers as well as commercial principles which
influence industrial textile designing. In designing the author has used
the required printing and manufacturing techniques as well as
computer-aided design. The main theme was to design patterns and products
which are compatible with Prisma-hypermarkets' basic product collection and
customers. The author designed thirteen pattern designs for the textile
collection of Prisma-hypermarkets for spring 2002. Two of the designs were
chosen in to the collection and will be on the market in January 2002.
The second factor which has influenced this final project work is the
author's role as a freelance-designer. The author observes the different
possibilities and standard practices which influence the work as a
freelancer and explains how a freelancer can start entrepreneurial
activity, what kind of contracts designers use and which are the basic
copyrights. This final project work is the author's process to get to know
the role of a freelance designer. This final project work is aimed at
textile students and people who know the basics of industrial textile
design. |
