A unique ryijy was designed and made as a final project work. The aim was to develop makers artistic expression in designing ryijy and to get technical steadiness in making painterly, relief like ryijy. The report concentrates on the sketches, analysing them and describing the process of making the ryijy. Maker has gathered on the report Finnish and foreign textile art and other pieces of art which give her inspiration. Then they are analysed according to her idea of aesthetics. Designing the ryijy started from the images; colours and the thoughts that are wanted to express with the work. The knowledge relys on the makers 1999 designed and made ryijy, which idea she wanted to continue in her final project work. It was supposed to get a relief like surface on the textile, which is made by using two different length of yarn. Maker painted sketches and chose one of them to carry through into woollen work. Four different colour variations were made of the model with Photoshop –computer program. Before starting the weaving, right yarn colour combinations were chosen and they were planed also during the weaving. The ryijy was finished by cutting yarn lines steady, so that the relief look would show clearly. The finished ryijy became as planned and relief look works also fine. Maker got lot of experience about colour composition and making a shading coloured ryijy. The price was set for the ryijy so that it can be sold. Report also includes thoughts about the future as a textile designer and different possibilities to develop makers artistic activity.
