The final project work consists of a design project of textile work of art to Gera town hall in Germany. The Kuopio city presents a textile work of art to Gera to honour the Friendship town Conference taking place there. The conference is organized by Gera town in June 2002. The contact person in Kuopio is Office Secretary Heikki Viitala and in Gera Graphic Designer (diploma) Barbara Lechner. In the final project work the design process of the textile work of art as well as the starting points for designing have been described. The place where the textile work of art will be situated is the festival hall in Gera town hall. The work of art consists of two parts as it will be placed into two wall recesses. The size of one recess is 111 x 230. The design process is based on the theme Finnishness, which is the wish of the customer. In the design process Finnishness is dealt with on the basis of the idea of contrasting seasons of dark winter and Finnish, luminous summer. The process has advanced on the basis of choices made by the customer. To support the sketches material and technique samples are made. The used materials are silk, cotton, linen and viscose-polyester and the used techniques are printing, painting and devoré. The suitability of the design to the room in question is studied with the help of PhotoShop programme. For the background of the design project, the history of Gera town and Gera town hall as well as friendship city activity of Kuopio city is studied. In the final project work the design process and factors having an effect on the process have been described. The final textile work of art will be made later according to schedule in spring 2002. The Graphic Designer (Diploma) Barbara Lechner is responsible for the choice of the final design for the textile work of art. The final project work is directed to a person having basic knowledge about printing and dyeing.
