As her graduate work, Anna Räisänen has designed a new kind of water barrier in cooperation with Mari Huhtala, a product design student from the Lahti Polytechnic. The project has been an experiment, which studies how textile is going to be suitable for use in the bathroom and how well this kind of shower wall is going to work The purpose of the shower wall is to be a protector against waterdrops and a barrier which allows light to show trough. The graduate work also deals with the bathroom as a space in the home and images associated with the bathroom. Anna Räisänen and Mari Huhtala has made plans and developed solutions together in the context of the conversation. Shower wall`s consumers has been found out by inteviewing some shower wall – dealers in Kuopio, Lahti and Helsinki. An important part of the graduate work has been the cooperation in which two different design trades has joined together. One of the counsellors was interior decorator FIO Jouko Järvisalo. The designing process has been started by finding out the criterion for the shower wall. The Shower wall should be safety, easy to clean and install and beautiful. Anna Räisänen has been responsible for designing and producing the textile, which has been used as a barrier against water in the shower. The designing of the textile has been done by many samples. Mari Huhtala was responsible for designing and producing the water barrier`s frame. Anna Räisänen has tested pieces of the fabric so that she could be sure how the fabric is going to work in a shower wall. Through weaved samples has 78 cm wide and four metres long textile been produced.Textile`s warpmaterials has been nylon line and stainless steel wire and weftmaterials nylon line and nylon thread. Textilematerial is going to be cut to size and set to the water barrier`s frame. The design has been directed at creating a light and airy appearance. “Mirage” – shower wall consists of two wall elements which are able to move along tracks on the ceiling. The functional part of the shower wall has focused on being an effective benefit to the bathroom space.
