The aim of this final project work was to clarify the possibilities of glowing and reflective screen print pastes as well as how these kind of pastes can be used in childrenīs bedroom textiles. The aspiration was to design and make textiles which offer an experience. The point of departure was a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon by Bill Watterson. In this final project work the author charts what kind of glowing and reflective pastes are available. The quality to glow as well as the washablity of the Lumilux-powder, which glows in the dark were studied. The author printed samples with Reflective Ink for Textile Series 8000 –paste with the help of product specialist Timo Pasanen from Suomen 3M. The author thought about appearance of childrenīs bedrooms in general and compared it to her own opinion. She also thought about the World of monsters and drew different kinds of monsters. In this final work the author designed and made curtains and a bedcover. There were two different worlds in the textiles: a monster world which you can see in the dark and a cute piggy pattern which you can see in light. Textiles got their colour by dyeing and spraying. The piggy pattern was printed with EMO dye-pastes and the monster pattern was printed with Lumilux-powder. Curtains also have patterns which was printed with Reflective-paste. The author decorated a childrenīs bedroom with these textiles. The aim was to create a sleepy and peaceful atmosphere to the room. When the lights were turned off all you could see was little monsters in the curtains and the bedcover.
