Since 1997 the author has designed knitwear models as a free-lancer for Mobimek Ltd., an enterprise located in Lappeenranta and producing knitted beanie hats for sales promotion purposes. The author has combined the making process of the annual knits collection with her final project work. Due to the fact that the author lacks proper training in the field of knits she has frequently had some technical problems with the knit designs she has offered to the firm. Thus, it has been important for the author to get better acquainted with knit techniques, especially jacquard technique used in making knitted beanie hats. The second objective of the final project work has been to do research work on traditional ornaments and their suitability in knits design. The ornaments in question have been the source for the authorīs ideas in designing the knitted beanie hats collection. Furthermore, the author wanted to increase her knowledge of the business strategy of Mobimek Ltd. The resulting product of the authorīs final project work is the promotional knitted beanie hats collection to Mobimek Ltd. by using jacquard technique and traditional ornaments. The authorīs intention has been to develop her own professional competence as a knits designer so that she could be a more competitive free-lancer in the field of knits design at present as well as in the future.
