The starting point for the final project work has been the article “Käsin nyplätty kongressi” by Jouni K. Kemppainen. The article is about an Oidfa congress held in Finland. During the congress a bobbin lace competition was arranged in which the subject was the poems ‘Satakieli herää’ by Aaro Hellaakoski and ‘Kahlaajatyttö’ by Aila Meriluoto. The author discovered the article when she was looking for some information about bobbin lace in the Internet while doing her practical work placement in spring 2001. The author got interested in designing and making with the help of learning by experimenting – method. For the final project work the author changed the source of inspiration from poems to music as for her those or other poems seemed not to be a good source of inspiration. The chosen music was Finnish pop music and the band was Tehosekoitin. The best piece of music was Kaikki Nuoret Tyypit ( All young guys). The author designed the works by drawing, cutting paper and by making bobbin lace in the rhythm of music. The author made three samples through learning by experimenting. The first sample the author made by drawing lines on paper and then changing those lines into a pattern. And after that the author made the second sample so that she got 30 pairs of bobbins and then began making a bobbin lace. The third sample the author made so that first she cut and glued paper pieces onto another piece of paper. After this she made a bobbin lace sample which was following the shapes of those paper pieces. Those three sample the author can use when she’s planning a course based on the theme of this final project work: Music as inspiration for bobbin lace
